BIM is defined as the “digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of an object”, that is an “information container” in which to uniquely link graphic data with specific technical attributes related to costs and quantities, maintenance planning and sustainability of the project.
Recent surveys carried out by associations show that designers are interested in BIM, albeit with some hesitation. In particular, the Assobim study points out that the increase in skills by sector operators does not actually result in an increase in orders carried out entirely in the BIM environment, but carried out in a hybrid environment between BIM and CAD.
The BIM design obligations in Italy to date are unfortunately limited to the public sector only for works worth more than 15 million euros, with a progressive cancellation of the minimum threshold starting from 2025. Will we be ready, as a “country system” to tackle this challenge?
STUDIOARCO + ENGINEERING SRL, already starting from 2017, has decided to look in this direction by investing in software and staff training, aware that this way of operating, although more expensive and demanding in the design phase, in the long run can bring a benefit to management of the built, in the interest of the client. STUDIOARCO + ENGINEERING SRL has approved its three-year business plan 2020-2022 with the goal of complete conversion to BIM design.
